1989 -- Orbis Pictus Awards

Orbis Pictus Awards The Orbis Pictus Award was established in 1989 by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) to promote and recognize excellence in nonfiction for children. The award commemorates the work Orbis Pictus -- The World in Pictures (1657) by Johannes Amos Comenius, which is considered to be the first book actually planned for children.
